Before you go

Documents: Registration papers with photo ID for proof of legal title. Only registered owner can retrieve the vehicle.

Payment: All three major lots accept cash, money orders, credit/debit cards, and electronic transfers.

TimeLimit: Act fast. Nevada has NO cap on storage fees. Daily charges can quickly exceed the vehicle's value. Typically 7-30 days before auction.

Fees: Nevada has NO statutory cap on tow/storage fees (as long as tow company notifies the owner). Without notification, fees must be reasonable. Accrued fees can exceed vehicle value.

Why cars get towed in Las Vegas

DUI or reckless driving arrest

If arrested for DUI or reckless driving in Nevada, your vehicle is immediately impounded. Storage fees accrue daily.

Illegal parking (hydrants, handicap)

Blocking fire hydrants or using handicap spots without proper plates/tags leads to immediate towing.

Accident-related impound

Vehicles involved in accidents are towed to impound. You must retrieve within the state's specified period or face auction.

Contraband discovery

If law enforcement discovers guns, drugs, or other contraband during a stop, the vehicle is impounded as evidence.

Parked in a private lot?

Nevada is one of the few states with NO cap on tow/storage fees. If your car was impounded for DUI, you can tell the arresting officer which tow company to use. Apartment complexes have special towing rules — check your lease agreement.

Signs must be displayed on private property in accordance with NRS 487.038 and applicable municipal/county ordinances. In residential complexes, reserved parking spaces and prohibited areas must be clearly marked. The Public Utilities Authority can verify maps of properties upon request.

🏢Private Property Rules

A tow car operator cannot tow a vehicle from private property at the request of the property owner unless signs are properly displayed per NRS 487.038. HOAs may direct removal of improperly parked vehicles but must post written notice on the vehicle or provide oral/written notice to the owner first.
